M. P. SIMONER IS THE ONLY AUTHORIZED FALCO ACTOR IN THE WORLD BY FALCO’S MOTHER MARIA HÖLZEL

It all started in 1985 when Drahdiwaberl’s Stefan Weber happened to meet the hairdresser and Falco fan Michael Patrick Simoner. When Weber asked him what he could do, the vocally trained Simoner replied: “There are two things I can do: “doing hair and imitating Falco.” That was his contract. On the Danube Island he performed the song “Ganz Wien” his debut. Falco himself congratulated and honored commitment and passion.

As Hans Hölzel significantly lost popularity in the years that followed, the demand for Falco lookalikes also fell. It was only after the tragic traffic accident in February 1998 that he made a decision: “I felt like I had to do something to let him live on.”

With the necessary verve, he finally convinced manager Peter M. Pernica. Shortly afterwards, Paulus Manker hired him for the Falco Cyber Show, and since then he has been unstoppable and this path continues after 17 years – a new program is being worked on and will be presented at the end of 2015!

Excerpt from an interview with STANDARD magazine

Standard: You are 10 years younger than Falco. When did your biographies intersect?

Simoner: In 1985 I met Stefan Weber from “Drahdiwaberl”, where Hans was the bass player. I was 18 and an apprentice hairdresser and Weber asked: “What else can you do besides cutting hair?” And I say: imitate Falco.

Standard: At that time, Falco had long been famous as an inspector.

Simoner: Yes, and he actually didn’t want to perform with Drahdiwaberl anymore. So Stefan Weber had the idea of making me a special Drahdiwaberl-Falco to get one over on Hans Hölzel. And so it happened in front of 20,000 people on Vienna’s Danube Island. Afterwards Falco came backstage and said to me: “Oida, you really liked it.” I was then the Drahdiwaberl Falco for two years.

Standard: Did you already know Falco’s mother back then?

Simoner: For a long time I only knew my mother by sight. Only after Hans left us did she suddenly stand there at one of my performances in the Roter Hiasl (an inn in Vienna’s Lobau; note) and say: “I don’t know whether I should laugh or scream.” Then she did hugged me for minutes. Since then we have been traveling together again and again. “It won’t happen until I want it,” my mother always said.
